Latifa, born in France, studied art and textile design in the historic textile production center of Roubaix, in the north of France, at the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et du Textile. She worked in Paris for a number of years in haute couture and costume design for the opera, theater and cinema, while also making art. Located in San Francisco since 2000, Latifa continues to pursue art and designs her own handmade garment collections that are shown and sold in North America and Europe.
One unifying theme across much of Latifa's textile work is the use of fibers in new and unexpected ways. Doing so often creates opportunities to shape garments into unique sculptural forms that transform ordinary garments and accessories into eye-catching treasures, and creates links between her garment collections and her sculptural pieces.
