Based upon the idea of uniting traditional weaving skills with innovation, Chabatik developed a special method of weaving called double Ikat.  To achieve the beauty of flexible silk threads, the raw threads are first boiled, then tied by hand, and the dyeing is repeating multiple times.  These dyed threads are carefully arranged, one by one, on the loom and woven into contemporary designs.  Because the surface design is created in the yarns rather than on the finished cloth, both front and back of the shawls are patterned.  Double Ikats are relatively rare because of the intensive skill required to produce them.
