Nan Leaman
When Nan started out four decades ago as a weaver and spinner, she decided to raise her own sheep. This proved to be the start of her love affair with wool fiber. Nan uses dye and surface design techniques to create and color her unique scarves and shawls that are woven of lightweight wool or silk, or combinations of both. Many of her pieces use Japanese shibori techniques – stitch, fold and clamp resist, as well as pole wrapping – to create pleating and color variations. She also incorporates deconstructed silk screen printing and the "nuno felt" technique that fuses wool and silk fibers.
Nan lives on Widbey Island, Washington.
